Highlights 2011

Win a caravan plus tow-vehicle valued € 38,000

One of this year’s programme highlights is the photo design competition sponsored by Caravaning Informations GmbH (CIG), where the winner will walk away with a brand new vehicle/caravan combination including a Fiat Bravo, valued at € 38,000. The prize will go to the most creative caravan designer, who designs a caravan using his or her most beautiful holiday shot. The competition starts on Monday, 18 July, online at www.caravaning-info.de and at the stand of Caravaning Informations GmbH in Hall 10. More information is available online and at the trade fair stand. Everybody is invited to participate, provided they have a funny or extraordinary holiday photo. You may submit your images at the trade fair stand either as a regular print or on any popular data carrier. Using a specially designed computer program, the image can easily be transferred to the caravan. There is only one condition: The picture should have been taken while on holiday. As far as motifs, there are no constraints whatsoever. A jury of the experts will decide on the winner on the last trade fair day.

The Andes, China and Northern Europe in a Motor Home

In this year’s multi-media shows Konstantin Abert, Jeanette Emerich and Uwe Hamm will take visitors of CARAVAN SALON on trips to China, the Andes and the North of Europe. The multi-media shows are screened daily at the cinema in Hall 12, Stand D 72.

On the Road in the Middle Kingdom

Beijing, the Great Wall and the Terracotta Warriors, a spectacular mountain world complete with yaks and meadows of edelweiss as far as the eye can see, the wildly jagged stone deserts surrounding the Tarim Basin and Taklamakan Desert – China is far too beautiful to just fly over or “whizz” through on a high-speed train. Travelling in a motor home will enable you to discover territories few foreigners will have ever seen. In his thrilling multi-media show at CARAVAN SALON Konstantin Abert reports of encounters with locals who have never seen a “long-nose” before, let alone a motor home. He takes visitors through the country providing a close-up of the land and its people – a 10,000 km trip through an empire you really have to experience driving through to enjoy this intense sense of adventure.

Fascination Andes – the Longest Mountain Range in the World

No other mountain range in the world is as varied and mysterious as the Andes. An impressive 7,500 km long they form South America’s backbone between Argentina’s windswept Tierra del Fuego and Colombia’s tropical Caribbean. In their 1-hour multi-media show at CARAVAN SALON DÜSSELDORF Jeanette Emerich and Uwe Hamm take visitors off to these unique mountains demonstrating the fascination of the Andes in impressive photography and film footage. On their tours these two adventurous caravanning enthusiasts climb as high as 5,000 m crossing mountain passes, passing smoking volcanic cones and glaciers, giant salt lakes and plateaus where llamas graze against the backdrop of idyllic scenery. They skilfully blend sensitive portraits, unique blazes of colour and razor-sharp animal photos with humorous travel anecdotes.

The Magic North: Scotland – Iceland – Norway – Karelia

Not one but four fascinating countries in Northern Europe are the destination of the Dream Tour Show “Magic of the North”: together Konstantin Abert, Jeanette Emerich and Uwe Hamm accompany the visitors of CARAVAN SALON DÜSSELDORF through Scotland, Iceland, Norway and Karelia.

They establish a link between Iceland’s savage natural forces making nature lovers’ hearts race at the sight of mighty waterfalls, lava deserts, hot springs, Europe’s biggest glacier plus Scotland’s grand fortified and romantic fairytale castles, mystic landscapes and jagged coastline not forgetting Norway’s legendary fjords and further on the largely unknown region of Karelia in Northern Russia. In an entertaining show the three hosts proof that Europe has quite something to offer and that travellers need not always venture on extreme tours further a field.

Premiere: Amphibious Caravan at CARAVAN SALON 2011

Many have dreamt of this: with the amphibious caravan “Sealander” to be launched at CARAVAN SALON 2011, the camping tour no longer ends at the shore but can easily be continued on the water. Because the innovative “swimming” caravan, which will be presented in an outdoor pool, can be used not only as a caravan trailer on shore but also be moved off-shore thanks to an outboard motor.

Since it uses a low-emission 5 HP electric motor the Sealander is permitted to navigate on many inland waterways. The motor is powered by an accumulator, which also doubles for power supply in the vehicle interior and is conveniently charged by the tractor vehicle via recharge cable while driving. Clearly an asset: Sealander pilots need no additional driver’s licence – neither for driving the passenger vehicle nor for boating. In both cases a B class driving permit is sufficient. The innovative vehicle convinces us not only with its meticulous finish and use of high-quality materials but also with its dynamic, independent design.

Biggest high-rope challenge course on the second weekend

From 2 to 4 September, during the hiking and trekking fair TourNatur, Europe’s largest mobile high-rope challenge course will be set up as an extra attraction in the area in front of Hall 2. The “Adrenalinpark” has over ten different balancing and climbing challenges at 8 metres’ height. Ten trade fair visitors aged 12+ can climb simultaneously, attended by six professional climbers.

For safety reasons the high-rope challenge is not open to people belonging to one of the following groups:

- Children under the age of 12
- Persons smaller than 1.50 m
- Pregnant women
- Persons under the influence of alcohol or other drugs
- Persons with back afflictions, cardiovascular diseases or fits
- Persons weighing more than 100 kg

Junior Driving Licence in genuine miniature cars

This year’s CARAVAN SALON DÜSSELDORF from 27 August to 4 September 2011 also has a true highlight in store for the younger visitors amongst us: in the outdoor Jumicar traffic practice area children aged 7+ can playfully familiarise themselves with traffic rules and take the CARAVAN SALON driving test in real, engine-driven yet eco-friendly miniature cars. On the hour a driving instructor first explains basic traffic rules to children in a “theory lesson”. Subsequently, they drive through a training course in cars fitted with wheels, accelerator and brakes before finally taking the “practical driving test”. Each child then receives their personal CARAVAN SALON Jumicar driver’s licence. Younger children are allowed to accompany the young drivers as passengers.

Climbing, bouncing and balancing

Also offering its services again outdoors is the “Stadtsportbund Düsseldorf”. Its 6.50 m high climbing wall has four routes with various degrees of difficulty. Alternatively, kids can also climb up a 6 m rope. Alongside this, there is a four-metre high boulder wall boasting a tricky one metre of horizontal climbing overhead. Narrow and dark rather than high and vertiginous is the 30 m long cave maze where children have to “feel” their way without any light. Sense of balance is called for by the trend sport “Slacklining“. Here children have to balance on soft belts stretched between trees. Less concentration and precision, however, is called for on the big bouncy castle where kids can romp around to their hearts’ content.
